"Do you remember?"

Yeah I used today's theme song as my title.

I have been thinking ALL day about two things. Before I get started, A couple of posts ago, (or the last one, I don't remember...) I mentioned something for which I chose the song "Boston & St. Johns" Well for those who don't know yet...

I will be deploying to Afghanistan in early January. What does that mean? Well, on Saturday night, I was up till 0230 praying for one thing, that I could just see the people I mentioned in the post. No matter how briefly, just to say thanks in person. I may never come back from deployment, that is a simple truth.

NOW, back to the two things. The first thing I want to do is take a poll...

Which do you think is worse?

1) Physical death of a friend

2)Social death of a friend(ship)

What do I mean by social death? I mean that you are no longer on speaking terms. Not because you want it that way, but because the other person is no longer interested.

For me, I think the social death would be worse.

So yeah, that is the first thing that I thought about all day. The second, is that no matter how hard I try, some people are IMPOSSIBLE to reach, and when I try and try, they get upset, or mad. Now, I have a legit reason for this. I am leaving for school in August, and after that I deploy. I am running at of time and I am starting to get a little frantic. Well I am done for today, check back next time. =]

That's a good question. I would say the death of a friend, because that is truly a loss. While it is really hard to have someone no longer want to be your friend, at least you know where you stand. Who wants a relationship with someone who is only there, because they have to be there? That really isn't a loss, because they quit on your friendship. So, while it is a loss, it is more a loss of potential or imagined friendship, than actual friendship. And anyone who would drop someone who actually wanted to be friends probably has issues that would make them not such good friends.

People who make it hard for you to contact them, and/or get upset at your efforts, should be let go. They don't deserve you. You don't have time to waste on people who don't want your friendship. Stop investing---it's fruitless. Their loss. Give that time to the people who care, and the relationships that bear fruit.

I'm really glad you've been blogging. It is a MUCH better way to stay in the loop with folks than Facebook statuses.
